How does a home measurement or floorplan service work?

During a home measurement service, an appraiser measures the home or property with a measuring tool — generally a tape measure or laser measuring device. As they tour the home, they make note of the layout of the rooms and other features, like closets, entryways, and fireplaces. They might make a rough sketch of the property. Then, the appraiser creates a report and detailed floorplan showing the total living area and the overall layout of the home. The finished report is a document that can be used to prove certain details about your property — like the Gross Living Area (GLA) — on tax documents, property listings, and more.
